A 53-year-old businessman, Adimike Godwin, has reportedly died after he was allegedly stabbed by his son, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), during a domestic dispute in the Guzape area of Abuja on Friday night.
Police sources and associates of the deceased said the incident followed a disagreement at the family residence. Godwin, who was known for his involvement in the electrical trade and real estate investments, was said to divide his time between Lagos and Abuja.
A member of the Electrical Dealers Association of Nigeria (EDAN) described the deceased as an importer and established dealer in the market, noting that he also owned properties in both Lagos and Abuja.
According to the account, the son had recently returned from a nightclub before the confrontation. The dispute reportedly escalated over financial and business-related grievances, after which the father was allegedly stabbed multiple times.
The son is currently in police custody in Abuja. Authorities have also invited the deceased’s wife for questioning as part of ongoing inquiries.
The Electrical Dealers Association of Nigeria said it had secured the deceased’s business premises to prevent loss of assets following the incident, describing the development as a significant shock within the trade community.
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command confirmed the incident, saying it was discovered after a distress call from concerned persons who could not reach the victim.
Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh stated that officers found the victim unconscious at the scene and he was later confirmed dead at Karu General Hospital.
She added that five individuals, including a relative, are in custody as investigations continue under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi.
The police said the case remains under discreet investigation and urged members of the public to provide any relevant information that could assist the inquiry.
